Frequently asked questions
How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²). For example, someone 1.75 m tall weighing 70 kg: 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.9.
What is a healthy BMI range?
According to the World Health Organization, 18.5 – 24.9 is considered normal for adults. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25 – 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is obese.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
No. BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat and can be misleading for athletes, pregnant women, the elderly and children. Consult a health professional for a proper assessment.
