Final Grade Calculator

Enter three numbers — your current grade in the course, the overall grade you want, and how much the final exam is worth — and see exactly what you need to score on the final. If the required score is above 100 the target is out of reach with the final alone; if it is 0 or below, your target grade is already secured.

Frequently asked questions

How is the required final exam score calculated?

Required = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final's weight as a fraction. Example: your current grade is 88, you want a 90, and the final is worth 40%: (90 − 88 × 0.6) ÷ 0.4 = 93.

What if the required score is over 100?

Your target grade cannot be reached through the final exam alone. Consider asking about extra credit, checking whether other assignments are still open, or adjusting your target to what a perfect final would yield.

Where do I find the weight of my final exam?

In the course syllabus or your school's grading policy. It is usually listed as a percentage, e.g. "final exam: 40%". The remaining percentage is what your current grade already covers.
