Weighted Grade Calculator

Most courses don't treat every score equally: a final worth 40% moves your average far more than a quiz worth 10%. Enter each score with its weight and get your weighted average instantly. Weights don't have to add up to 100 — they are treated as proportions — but the tool warns you when they don't, since a missing component usually means a missing weight.

Frequently asked questions

How is a weighted average calculated?

Each score is multiplied by its weight, the products are summed and divided by the sum of the weights: (score₁ × w₁ + score₂ × w₂ + …) ÷ (w₁ + w₂ + …). Example: 85 at 30%, 72 at 30% and 90 at 40% give 25.5 + 21.6 + 36 = 83.1.

What happens if my weights don't add up to 100?

The average is still computed by treating the weights as proportions (e.g. weights 1, 2 and 3 work like 1/6, 2/6, 3/6). The tool shows a notice so you can check whether a graded component is missing.

What is the difference between a weighted and a simple average?

A simple average gives every score the same importance. A weighted average multiplies each score by its share of the course grade, which matches how most syllabi combine homework, midterms and finals.
